By Dr. Young The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio 7703 Floyd Curl Drive San Antonio, TX 78284-7914
OBJECTIVE Test of Dental Disinfector to the parameters outlined in the submitted Test Protocol. The test protocol included: Critical temperature (93ºC) reached and held for 10 min (accuracy +/- 2ºC); Each DESIN 93ºC/10 min cycle run to completion for each test. (cleaning/disinfecting, acid rinse, interim rinse, final rinse); and Temperature – Time diagram.
TEST CONDUCTION All tests were run on DESIN 93ºC/10 min cycle @ three phase 208 VAC, 60 Hz 20A. Machine was fully loaded for all runs with cabinet inserts and dental instruments. Temperature was measured at 60 second intervals at two simultaneous locations during each complete DESIN 93ºC 10 min cycle. The locations tested were the bottom center drain sump (thermocouple suspended in the center of the filter basket, level with the bottom of the chamber) and the upper left rear of chamber (thermocouple suspended two inches below top and two inches from back & sidewall of chamber). Ten complete cycles were run @ the DESIN 93ºC 10 min setting. Chemicals used during the tests were; neodisherÔ MA, neodisherÔ N & neodisherÔ Mielclear. All chemicals were used according to manufacturer’s instructions.
RESULTS The unit performed as per specification in all respects and maintained an internal temperature of 93ºC +/- 2ºC for a minimum of 10 minutes, as per stated specification…
CONCLUSION The Miele G7781 Dental Disinfector performed its time temperature cycles precisely as stated in the manufacturer’s specifications. A temperature to 93ºC was reached and held for a minimum of ten (10) minutes within the unit chamber during all ten test cycles.
